Mr. Lee G
The Voice of Resilience, Soul, and Global Rhythm
From the vibrant harmonies of a Trinidadian church choir to the legendary stages of New York City, Mr. Lee*G (born Leroy Griffith Jr.) has spent over three decades crafting a sound that defies genres. A natural lyricist with a soulful foundation, Lee*G has built a career defined by artistic versatility and an unbreakable spirit.
The Early Years: From Trinidad to Brooklyn
Lee*G’s musical journey began in his birthplace of Trinidad, where he developed his vocal power in the SDA church choir. Migrating to Brooklyn in 1988, he immersed himself in the city’s creative pulse, eventually enrolling in the Julia Richman High School for the Performing Arts. Studying musical theater allowed him to refine his stage presence, while influences like The Isley Brothers, Marvin Gaye, Jacob Miller, and Shabba Ranks helped shape his signature blend of Soul, Reggae, and Hip-Hop.
Career Milestones & Global Stages
Lee*G’s talent quickly caught the attention of industry heavyweights. In the early 2000s, he became a key collaborator for Hip-Hop legend Masta Ace, featuring on the classic albums Disposable Arts and A Long Hot Summer.
His charisma also took him to the mainstream stage as part of the Verizon Ladies First Tour, where he shared the spotlight with icons Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, and Missy Elliott.
Resilience & The Modern Era
In 2008, Lee*G faced his greatest challenge when he survived a life-threatening shooting while promoting music in Trinidad. This experience infused his work with a new level of depth and gratitude. He later linked up with Grammy-winning producer Chucky Thompson to create "Healing Time" and "Sucka Free," cementing his reputation as a storyteller of the highest caliber.
The Current Sound: "IOLA" & Beyond
Today, Mr. LeeG is operating at the peak of his creative powers under Oon Lah Music Ent., Inc. Following the successful release of his "Healing Time" EP, he is currently captivating global audiences with his latest single, "IOLA." A sophisticated Afrobeat production written and produced by LeeG himself—with arrangement by Zara Griffith—"IOLA" represents the artist's continued evolution and his commitment to making great music for the world.
